MAZDA CX-5

Is the Mazda CX-5 the right compact SUV for you? Or should you go with the Nissan Rogue? Seeing how they compare in a few key areas can help you decide.

Power and Performance

The Mazda CX-5 comes with a 187-horsepower 2.5-liter, four-cylinder engine. The other option is a 250-horsepower 2.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder. Both come with a smooth-shifting six-speed automatic transmission. In addition to excellent acceleration, the Mazda CX-5 is extremely nimble and handles beautifully. The Nissan Rogue only has one engine choice: a 2.5-liter, four-cylinder that puts out 181 horsepower. This is paired with a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT). This SUV’s acceleration is lackluster, and it isn’t nearly as athletic as the Mazda CX-5.

Tech

The numerous standard tech features in the Mazda CX-5 are impressive. First of all, you’ll get an infotainment system with a huge 10.25-inch touchscreen. HD radio, two USB ports, Apple CarPlay®, Android Auto™, and a Wi-Fi® hot spot are standard as well. Available features include satellite radio, two extra USB ports, and a navigation system. The touchscreen in the Nissan Rogue is only eight inches. Plus, if you want a Wi-Fi® hot spot, this will require an upgrade.

Safety

The Mazda CX-5 has an extensive number of built-in safety features. These include rear cross-traffic alert, adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, automatic emergency braking, and blind spot monitoring. Front and rear parking sensors, driver attention monitoring, and a surround-view parking camera system are all available. While the Nissan Rogue has some of the same safety features, both lane keep assist and adaptive cruise control don’t come standard.
