No one wants to deal with a flat tire when they’re in the middle of a road trip. However, these tips from the Mazda service center staff at Baglier Mazda can help you deal with this annoyance and get right back to your trip. Changing a tire isn’t all that complex if you prepare properly and keep the right supplies on hand.

The Proper Preparations

Before a long trip or a new season, have your mechanic check out your tires for potential damage. Also, make sure that all four are properly inflated. Having a small tire inflator of your own in the trunk is a good idea too.

You want to make sure that you have a suitable spare Mazda tire. A lot of drivers have a “donut” in their trunk which is basically a cheap tire that you can use to limp your vehicle to safety. They are not meant to be used for regular daily driving. Also, make sure you have a jack and tire iron. Most vehicles come with both, but you don’t want to be stranded without them so make sure to check.

Changing a Tire

Now if you end up with a flat tire, you’re ready for it. If your tire goes flat despite your best efforts to care for it, pull over to a safe spot. Then:

  1. Take out your spare tire, jack, and tire iron
  2. Loosen the wheel lugs
  3. Jack up the car and remove the flat tire
  4. Install the spare tire
  5. Lower the car and tighten up the wheel lugs

Now you’re ready to get back to your trip! Just make a service center appointment soon and get a new tire.
